5.0 out of 5 stars Wow...An emotional, entertaining story

This book hooked me from the very first page I read. Heartwarming and entertaining, Mark Perretta weaves the subtleties of each character into an amazing story. There are so many little nuances that, if you pay attention, connect characters and themes. But, for me, this is more than just a story. As a veteran, and Naval Aviator, I can relate to the loss described in this book. I was introduced to a World War II veteran and survivor of the USS Indianapolis when I was very young. I heard parts of his story from my parents and they left an indelible impression upon me. Hitting even closer to the heart, I was privileged to call Jason Manse (characters namesake) a friend. I miss him very much, and often reflect back about the days we spent running, flying, and sharing happy moments with Tammy. It's an emotional read for sure, and I know many will relate to the characters in one way or another.
This novella is such a great story and I highly recommend it. I hope everyone connects with it and enjoys the clues hidden along the way, as much as I did.

There were so many beautiful and poignant moments in this book. This is a must-read for anyone whose journey through grief has left them asking, "Why?" I found the hope and promise that even in our deepest, darkest moments, God gives us something to celebrate. This is a beautiful story.

An outstanding and well written book reflecting love of family, county and fellow man. At 74, I've never read a book that emitted so much love and patriotism and did it in such a beautiful way. Our true heroes are our military personnel who give everything and sometimes all. God Bless them all. A great read!

A story of family and faith
A question of honor and unsung heroes
A magical tale that warms the patriotic heart

"If one listened closely, a sound began to emanate.  It was not the sound of man or ocean or beast.

Instead it was quiet and soft and peaceful, like the steady rain of a passing storm.

As John absorbed the familial scene before him,

his brother’s words rang in his ears.   Heaven above, Earth below..."

-Heaven Above, Earth Below

Heaven Above, Earth Below is an inspirational coming-of-age story that deals with family, faith, sacrifice and honor.  The story twists together the lives of three men: brothers Jason and John Mann, and a World War II veteran who lives in a retirement home.
Jason is the eldest son in the Mann family and a lieutenant in the Navy.  He has flown over 50 successful missions in Iraq and  finally returned to the States to be reunited with his family.

John is on a quest to prove himself as a man.  A strange offer by John’s philosophy professor gives him the opportunity he thinks he needs.  With his adventures at a retirement home with the Old Man, a survivor from the USS Indianapolis, and living at home with his mother and sister, John is set on an adventure that provides him the answers he seeks.
This magical story is a modern day metamorphosis that warms the patriotic heart with hope and inspiration.
